The Conservative party has retained control of West Sussex County Council after Thursday`s local elections, increasing its seats from 43 to 56 mainly at the expense of UKIP, which lost all 10 of its seats. The LibDems won 9 seats, up 2 on the last council, and Labour is down one with 5 seats.

Overall the number of seats has been reduced from 71 to 70 as a result of boundary changes. At the time of the election there were 3 independent councillors and 2 seats were vacant.

The new council meets for the first time on the 16th of May.
