Despite its tongue-in-cheek approach, this stage adaptation at the Capitol Horsham of Alfred Hitchcock`s classic thriller movie is infused with the brooding menace of pre-war nazified central Europe.

Seven brits returning to the UK by train – Iris, to marry an English lord, Miss Froy a retired ex-pat governess, Gilbert a young writer to see his parents, Eric an eminent barrister travelling back with his married lover, Margaret, after an illicit holiday, Charteris and Caldicott, cricket buffs anxious to get back for the final days of the Test Match – are initially delayed from leaving, as an avalanche has blocked the line. During the delay various things happen, including Iris being knocked down on the platform just before the train departs. Helped into her compartment by Miss Froy, they strike up a friendship. Later, Iris is persuaded to sleep to ease the effects of her accident. When she wakes Miss Froy has vanished and all the passengers, including the other brits deny her existence. What`s going on?

Well, you`ll have to take yourself off to the Capitol to find out. It`s on all week with two performances on Saturday. If you do, you`ll be treated, via impressive stagecraft, to a sinister steam train journey liberally peppered with laughs and with a touch of romance.

The play is produced by The Classic Thriller Theatre Company and has a large cast with a mass of theatre, film and TV experience between them.
