Shake Your Booty for Charity

Are you a big fan of Zumba or love raising money for a great cause? On Sunday 28th June, The Holbrook Club is hosting a Zumbathon to raise money for Make-A-Wish® UK. This event was organised by mother and daughter duo Lesley and Robyn Kemp (pictured).

They have been members of the Holbrook Club for many years and have attended Zumba classes there for almost three years now. Their love of the workout and their desire to raise money for charity has inspired their latest fundraising venture.

Robyn said: “We chose Make-A-Wish as it is such a special organisation and the stories of children’s wishes coming true is heart-warming; it’s such an amazing, magical charity.”

This is not the only fundraising Robyn is undertaking this year, she will be taking on the Inca Trail in Peru in August, trekking for 6 days to raise even more money for this deserving cause.

“We will be trekking altitudes of up to 5000m above sea and in varied conditions” Robyn said. It will be an experience of a life-time and I have to raise a total of £2990 for Make-A-Wish, so I really hope the Zumbathon can help me to my target!”

Here’s what Katy Cosgrove, Events Fundraiser at Make-A-Wish said about what Robyn and Lesley’s fundraising means for the charity:

“A wish can be anything from being a princess for the day, to meeting a hero or going on an once-in-a-lifetime family holiday. Whatever the child’s wish, it gives them and their family an escape from the reality of living with a life-threatening condition – creating memories to treasure forever, whatever the future may hold.

The money raised on the Zumbathon will help us to continue to grant these magical wishes. This year Make-A-Wish wants to grant 1000 wishes; anybody who fundraises for the charity helps to make a difference to the lives of seriously ill children and their families."

If you want to make a difference and shake your thing for charity, head down to The Holbrook Club before 11.00am, donate to take part and get dancing! In addition to this there will also be a cake sale and raffle, so if Zumba isn’t your thing, there are plenty of ways to show support to Robyn, Lesley and Make-A-Wish.
