Our Take on the Big Gig 19

HH were delight to attend The Big Gig, Horsham again this year, on Saturday 22nd June at https://www.horshamsportsclub.com/, Cricketfield Lane. Last year’s event set a high bar but the event continues to improve year on year.

Once again Horsham’s own John O’Sullivan hosted the event with his usual blend of innuendo and crowd interaction though he didn’t manage to find a mobility scooter this year. Together with the superb musical acts John made the afternoon flow like the Pimms, Prosecco and locally brewed beer.

On first were local talents, Joe90, performing a blistering set of guitar driven covers ranging from the Jam to Oasis to the Artic Monkeys and Kaiserchiefs. The band also ventured into some less familiar territory with Madness’ Baggy trousers and a nicely rocked up version of “Faith” by George Michael. Another great set from the guys, with a nice punk lean.

Next on the bill was the fabulous Kieran as Ed Sheeran who performed a string of songs from the contemporary British artist and songwriter. The A Team, Sing, Perfect and You need Me, I Don’t Need You, were delivered flawlessly in the afternoon sun and the crowd lapped it up.

A Tribute to Wham were up next delivering a string of hits form the great 80’s pop duo including “Club Tropicana”, “Wake Me Up before you Go Go” and “Last Christmas”. Many of the late great George Michael`s solo hits were also included such as “Freedom” and “Careless Whisper”. There was a great likeness to the man himself and they brought back memories to those of us of a certain age.

Big Gig favourites, The Blunter Brothers returned again for the penultimate act of the evening and once again proved a tough act to follow. Big funky beats and basslines and a wall of horns saw the dance floor fill with stomping feet eager to move to the timeless funk of James Brown and the soul of Stevie Wonder- Another blistering set thanks to these local legends.

Rule the World finished the proceedings with a great tribute to both Take That and Robbie Williams solo work. The guys sounded as good as the real thing and set a few pulses racing as they performed an array of hits form Take That`s original repertoire as well as their comeback era. From “Could it be Magic” and “Play”, to “Let Me Entertain You” and “Rock DJ”, to “Shine” and “Rule The World” the guys really brought the house down (or field as the case may be).

Another great selection of food and drink vendors and kids activities made this another storming success so here’s to next year folks.
