Multi-million Pound Leisure Plan

Multi-million Pound Leisure Plan

Horsham District Council yesterday announced plans to spend about £12.3m to build the district’s biggest public dry sports and leisure centre.

The proposal includes a six court sports hall, an 80-station gym, a cycle studio, three fitness studios, a café and extended catering facility which serves both the leisure centre and adjoining Horsham District Indoor Bowls Club.

There will also be a sensory room and changing for indoor and outdoor activity, including a Changing Places disabled changing facility.

The development, if approved by the cabinet on the 19th November and the council on the 9th December, will be in Broadbridge Heath next to the site of the existing 30-year-old leisure centre, which was not designed as a multi-sport leisure facility and is expensive to run.

The scheme optimises the use of the neighbouring bowls club and would also provide an outdoor running track, either in its current location or on a site nearby. A range of multi-use games areas behind the new centre would also be provided.

The council will work with the two amateur dramatic groups which use the existing centre to help them find new premises.

If the proposal is given the go-ahead, work could start on site as early as 2017, with a completion date in 2018.

The scheme is on display at an exhibition at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, Wickhurst Lane, Broadbridge Heath and at The Pavilions In The Park, Hurst Road, Horsham RH12 2DF, until Friday 20th October 2015.
