At a meeting of the full council yesterday, Horsham District councillors gave outline planning permission for the controversial development of 525 acres of land north of Horsham. US property company Liberty Property Trust`s plans include:

A 500,000 sq ft business park
2,750 new homes
Two primary schools
Land and financial contributions for a secondary school
A community centre and health facilities
Shops
Allotments and provision of public open space
Sports and recreational facilities

The application came before the council’s Planning Committee (North) on 28th April, but because of the significance of the application for Horsham, members decided that a final decision should be made by the full council.

The site (pictured) is north of the A246 from the Harwood Road roundabout in the east to just short of the bridge over the Dorking rail line to the west.

Details such as landscaping, layout, appearance and scale will be dealt with under separate applications.
