Energy, Punch and Pace at the Capitol`s Aladdin

Choreographer, Sundeep Saini , describes herself as “passionate about driving narrative through physicality” and, boy, does she pull this off in Aladdin at the Capitol Horsham. Energetic, punchy dance routines push this production along at a cracking pace. Of course it can`t be done without an enthusiastic and professional cast – and do they step up to the plate? Absolutely.

The story is set in Old Shangri-la, but as this is actually the Carfax and the Causeway Horsham, the production has a modernistic feel about it. But don`t worry, all the traditional elements are there (oh yes they are) – wisecracks, wordplay and of course innuendo for the adults.

Directed by Zoë Waterman, this panto works seamlessly from the opening moments when Abanazar reveals his villainous plan to the closing moments when he`s a rehabilitated guest at the wedding of Aladdin and his princess. Acting, music, costumes, design, special effects - you can`t fault it.
