Cracking Peter Pan at the Capitol Horsham

Cracking Peter Pan at the Capitol Horsham

Once again the Capitol Horsham has served up a cracking panto with its production of Peter Pan, which Hello Horsham saw the other night. The script sticks closely to J M Barrie`s timeless tale, so we follow Wendy and her two brothers as they literally fly with Peter Pan from the Darling family home for the Neverland of mermaids, fairies, Native Americans, pirates and, of course, lost boys. As a story of children abandoning their parents with glee and without a pang of remorses, it resonated with the youngsters in the audience if their enthusiastic response is anything to go by.

The traditional pantomime dame, in the character of Mrs Smee, and her son, Mini Smee, worked the audience mercilessly, as did the pantomime villain, in the guise of Captain Hook. And the audience loved it.

Pacy song and dance routines punctuated the show, with the professionals in the cast matched by a seriously talented team of local actors playing the Lost Boys and Girls. Throw in a dancing dog, a ticking crocodile you really want to take home, and an audience that rises to every occasion, and you`ll leave the theatre knowing you`ve seen something magical – and that you`ll never say “I don`t believe in fairies” again.

The show runs at the Capitol Horsham until the 5th of January. For times and tickets click here.
