Crackdown on Metal Thieves

Crackdown on Metal Thieves

11 October 2013 15:20 PM

Scrap metal dealers and collectors have four days left to apply to Horsham Council for a licence to trade. This follows the coming in to force of The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 on the 1st of October.

The Act was passed to try to put a stop to the large number of thefts of metal, which at times have caused huge disruption to commuters as thieves strip out signalling wires.

Tha Act prohibits the buying of scrap metal for cash and requires dealers to verify the identity of sellers.

The licences cost £345 for sites and £245 for collectors.

It will be for the police to enforce the new legislation.
