Southwater Leisure Centre is to get an injection of £50,000 of National Lottery money via Sport England`s Inspired Facilities fund.

The money will be used to create a Multi User Games Area which will free up indoor space and provide opportunities for new sports such as basketball, netball, five a side football and hockey. The indoor space will create greater opportunities for badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, martial arts, dance, and exercise classes.

Sport England Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “The Inspired Facilities Fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country. Since 2011, we’ve invested £88 million into more than 1,600 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs.

“It’s great to see Southwater Parish Council join the long list of successful organisations to benefit from this fund.‘

Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Peter Buckley said, “we are delighted to have secured this investment from the Inspired Facilities Fund. This means we can after many years of consultation now improve the provision of sporting facilities within the Southwater community.
