Saturday 01 October 2016

The Big Draw Spiralgig will take place at the Sussex Prairie Garden, Morlands Farm, Wheatsheaf Road (B2116), near Henfield, BN5 9AT (tel: 0044 (0)1273 495902) is inspired by the National theme ‘The Steam Powered Big Draw Festival.’ Fundraising this year will be for The Knitting Ladies of Bhaktapur, Nepal.

At the Spiralgig you will use microscopes with slides of cells, plant and insect matter and observe nature through a range of drawing and mixed media activities which will inspire wall hangings and installation.

" ‘STEAM’ stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. ‘STEAM’ recalls our Industrial past and the fusion of creative innovation, enterprise and the arts. To link to this theme The ‘Big Draw Spiralgig’ will include looking at the Fibonacci numbers (Nature's numbering system). They appear everywhere in Nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple.
This year artist / teachers Emma Taylor and Amanda Duke will be enthusiastically supported by Steyning Grammar School teachers Hannah Cole, Tim Charlesworth, Amanda Moss and Sarah Brewer."

Usual entry to the garden will be charged at £18 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children) or £7 for an adult and £3.50 for a child up to 16yrs. An extra £1 will be charged for joining into the Big Draw event to cover materials costs. All materials will be available. This event is for anyone who loves to draw, as well as those who think they can't!
